While Dorothy Bauer Jewelry is much newer than most of the jewelry on this site, it is so collectible and exquisite that I just had to include it! This is a line that is sure to continue to increase in value over the years, so it makes a great collectible - one you can enjoy using that increases in value.
Dorothy Bauer began creating jewelry in 1982. She and her husband Robert their company in Berkeley, California. It was originally named A Piece of the Rainbow. In 1999 they changed the name to Dorothy Bauer Designs. It appears that the company is no longer in business.
Ms. Bauer incorporated her personality as well as style into each piece designed and sold to the public. She created quality costume jewelry that was made with excellent workmanship. This coupled with the fact that each piece is unique is the reason why the products made are so highly sought after by collectors.
Bauer jewelry was created using high quality materials. The metal that was used to create the merchandise is composed of brass as well as other sturdy composites. Many of the pieces are plated or finished off with fourteen karat gold. The earlier pieces in this line of jewelry were created using high end rhinestones, milk glass and quality crystals. 
The newer products were created using Swarovski crystals as well as rhinestones. The stones are set into the merchandise using prongs and not glued into the metal.
This artist produced a variety of jewelry with a touch of whimsy and a lot of creativity. The products include earrings, bracelets as well as pins. The pins created by this designer, however, are the most eccentric as well as collectible of the pieces created. This is because the pins are so very unique in design. The line of jewelry made merchandise that mimicked just about every aspect of daily life. Also,
each piece was handcrafted and not mass produced. This is why the jewelry created by this designer is durable and each piece is near perfect.
One such item is a snowman pin that was created in the earlier days of the company. This pin is approximately three inches in height and has a gold plated metal as the base. The body of the snowman
has many small milk glass stones that are prong set onto the piece. There are black rhinestones that are prong set to create the eyes, nose as well as the top hat for the snowman. To finish this piece off, three amber rhinestones make the corncob pipe. This piece is elegantly designed and displays the craftsmanship as well as the ingenuity of the earlier pieces made by this designer.
The pieces can be identified by the fact that the designs are so eccentric. For example, the artist has created pin that are shaped like ice cream cones. These pieces contain amber Swarovski crystals that are prong set to imitate the brown cone with white crystals to simulate the ice cream atop the cone. Other examples of Bauer jewelry include trimmed Christmas trees, frogs, salamanders as well as rocking horses.
These beautiful pieces are all stamped with the maker mark on the back of the items. The makers mark for this company will read “Bauer” in all capitol letters on the back of the piece. Some of
the products made by this designer have a mark that reads “Bauer” with a copyright symbol just above the name.
