Kramer Jewelry was created in New York in 1943 by Louis Kramer. After a short time Louis was joined by his brothers Morris and Harry. Together the three brothers created beautiful costume jewelry in a variety of styles and designs for all types of clients. The pieces that were created by this company are highly collectible. They can be identified by markings on oval and triangular plaques affixed to the jewelry. These plaques are marked with either "Kramer of NY" or "Kramer of NY City" .
Kramer did not make its own products. The three brothers designed the jewelry using sketches then contacted other companies to create their designs. The brothers hired companies such as DeLizza, Elster Dan Kassof Inc. to produce the jewelry that they had envisioned. In doing so, the jewelry does not have a specific look that is constant. All the pieces made by this company were unique. This is also why the creations were labeled on the back with the name of the company.
Kramer created pieces with price ranges going from inexpensive items designed for every day folk to high-end fashion. As such the materials used in the production of this line of jewelry varied
greatly. Some of the products were created with plastic and glass beads that were molded to look more upscale. 
There were pieces, however, that were made with rhinestones, emeralds and other precious stones. The more high-end creations appeared on models and featured in fashion magazines. For example, in 1958 the well-known fashion magazine Vogue showcased a necklace bracelet and set of earring produced by Kramer jewelry. The set is composed of beautiful crystals and small, round emeralds.
While the majority of Kramer encompasses a variety of designs, there were pieces created as a specific line of products. Two designers commissioned the company to make jewelry that complimented their line of clothing. 
These designers were Christian Dior, Miriam Haskell and Frank Hess. The clothing designers chose the Kramer jewelry company due to the versatility of the product line as well as the popularity the company experienced. The three brothers continued to create jewelry for these designers for several years with much success.
Even with the fanciful clientele, this company could not sustain itself. The company closed its doors in 1980 and has not produced jewelry since that time. The pieces made during the thirty-seven years of production have not lost their value. 
In fact, many of the pieces sell for more than they did in store many years ago. The costume jewelry that can be found varies from simple to opulent including all types of earrings, brooches, necklaces, bracelets and rings. The value of the piece is dependent on the materials used to create the product as well as the condition and rarity. The most valuable pieces created by Kramer jewelry were made of precious stones such as emeralds and ruby's and have been kept in near perfect condition by the owner.
